According to the data of the open source map OpenStreetMap (hereinafter referred to as "OSM"), a Danish artist made the modeling software unity 3D engine automatically generate a virtual city based on the real city street network. The whole process can be described as "one click operation", and the results are amazing!

The artist set up a procedural content creation process, imported OSM data into unity, and used Houdini engine to create realistic urban landscape according to the location of the real world. The purpose is to use an automated process to generate a virtual environment based on real urban data as much as possible. The buildings and roads in the virtual city are constructed by a program system to obtain the architectural shape, pillar position and road line from the OSM data. Traffic lights, intersections and trees can also obtain their location from the OSM. The relevant parameters are adjusted in unity, which can produce infinite changes. The generated virtual city environment can be used for label segmentation in machine learning.

Virtual city imports building shapes and roads from OpenStreetMap, in which the location of traffic lights, intersections and trees also comes from real map data, and then generates buildings through programs, so as to automatically generate a virtual city. The specific process can be seen in the following diagram.
